Picture this: it’s the midst of the Covid chaos and a client reaches out to me for help decorating their newly purchased modern family home in Essendon. The catch? They’ve lived in Canada for years and never seen the place in person! It was all purchased over Zoom and Facetime in anticipation of their move back to Melbourne. What a crazy time it was!
So, with just real estate photography and a 3D floor plan at my disposal, I was tasked with furnishing two living areas, a home office and a bedroom for a teenage girl. They owned a few existing pieces but wanted me to fit out the living areas from scratch.
The challenge was on! We wanted something that was not only beautiful but could stand up to the wear and tear of three kids. So, we decided to go for high-quality furniture that could survive the chaos of kids while still looking great. In terms of colour, the brief was neutral, with colour accents in the form of artwork and cushions.
We chose a modular sofa from King Living that utilised all the space in the generously sized media room. With some burnt orange and pink accents, we created a calm and inviting space perfect for the whole family to relax and watch TV.
The living room was a little more lively with invigorating blues and greens, and we sourced some beautiful indoor plants to complete the look. Trust me, indoor plants make such a difference in a space! They add a freshness and liveliness that nothing else can.
We needed to present the home office and teenage bedroom immaculately, as they were located just next to the front door. To personalise the teenage girl’s room, we sourced some eclectic prints from Etsy, as she loved all things black and white. The home office had to be both practical and presentable since my client would meet with clients there.
In the end, it was a great success. The space turned out beautifully and was exactly what the family wanted. It just goes to show that even amid absolute chaos, anything is possible with a bit of creativity!
